Academic Opportunities

The Psychological Counseling and Guidance Center, which provides counseling and guidance services to students, carries out its work on the Çiftlikköy Campus. Helping students develop to the highest level and in a well-rounded way individually, socially, educationally and professionally, the center also conducts preventive and developmental activities for the various problems that may arise during the course of study.

The center offers services such as individual psychological counseling, group counseling, preventive/developmental programs, consultation, crisis intervention, referral, program evaluation, research and training. Through the online counseling service introduced in the field of Psychological Counseling and Guidance, individual online counseling is provided to students studying in the different districts of Mersin.

Through the Common Elective Course program offered to second-year students of undergraduate programs, students are encouraged to develop themselves in areas of interest outside their own departments.

Course content is designed around gains such as community service practices, cultural and artistic activities, sports and health activities, developing environmental awareness, popularizing science, developing historical and cultural awareness, communication skills and foreign-language skills.

The Barrier-Free Living Unit operates to provide students with disabilities a supportive environment equipped with good resources. The activities carried out by the unit are as follows:

Efforts to remove physical barriers: In addition to improvements such as ramps, central reservations, indoor and outdoor elevators and accessible toilets, students with disabilities are supported with computers, braille printers, scanners and audiobook applications.

Mersin University Accessibility Map: Published on our website, this map enables the accessibility of our university's units to be monitored. It is the first such application among universities in Türkiye.

Efforts to remove academic barriers: An audio textbook project was prepared, and the Mersin University Principles for the Education and Examination of Students with Disabilities were drawn up and put into practice.

Steps taken regarding social accessibility: Students' requests for support in doing sports have been met, and transportation support has been provided for dining-hall service and for their travel to and from campus. This too is a first among universities in Türkiye.

Our community projects: Vocational training was provided to people with disabilities through the Vocational Education and Support Center for the Physically Disabled project, and wheelchairs were supplied to people with disabilities in need through the 'Let's Collect Caps, Let's Remove Barriers' project.

Awards: For its barrier-free campus work, our University was deemed worthy of the Accessibility Quality Incentive Award by the Ministry of Family and Social Policies; and with its 'Physical Accessibility Map' prepared for people with disabilities and its 'Audio Textbook' project for academic accessibility, it was deemed worthy of an award in the 'Barrier-Free Education' category by the Barrier-Free Informatics Platform of Türkiye.

Students who have enrolled in an educational program at Mersin University and demonstrated success in their studies have the opportunity to transfer, during their education, to an equivalent program better suited to their own wishes, abilities and other special circumstances.

Students who successfully pursue their undergraduate programs have the opportunity to study in another field of interest (Minor Program) or to earn an undergraduate degree in a second field (Double Major Program).

The Distance Education program is an education model conducted over the internet and is the first and only internet-based education program in technical fields in our country.

Through this practice, education is made available to larger groups who wish to study, creating equal opportunity in education. It is based on following a curriculum equivalent to and the same as that of formal education programs.

The distance education model is also applied in the Master's program in Business Administration (e-Business). The program generally includes courses such as finance, accounting, marketing, human resources, organization management, information management and decision-making techniques.

No interview is conducted for admission to the non-thesis e-Business Master's Program, which is based on the distance-learning technique.

Many departments and programs affiliated with faculties, schools and vocational schools offer a 'one-year compulsory' foreign-language preparation program or, within quota, a 'one-year optional' foreign-language preparation program.

In addition, some departments and programs teach English, German or French as a second foreign language.

The Department of City and Regional Planning, affiliated with the Faculty of Architecture, provides education entirely in English.

Our University signed the European Union Higher Education agreement, the 'Erasmus Charter', in 2004, giving its students a 'European' identity. Through the Erasmus education program, students can take part in a multicultural exchange program abroad. They can thus continue part of their education as visiting students at a university in Europe, do internships and take part in an international project.

Many students from abroad also study at our University under the Erasmus program; and within the scope of staff exchange, our academic and administrative staff can benefit from mobility at universities abroad.

Carrying out various activities to meet the requirements of the Bologna Process, Mersin University promotes the mobility of students and faculty members and encourages lifelong learning.

The Social Transcript is an official document certifying not only students' academic achievements, but also their social, cultural, sports, volunteering, and professional development activities during university.

Extracurricular achievements such as professional development, social responsibility, leadership, and official awards are evaluated and recorded on this official transcript.

The Workplace Training (7+1 Model) at Mersin University is an innovative educational model enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real workplace environments and enhance their professional skills.

Consisting of 7 semesters of academic courses + 1 semester of full-time workplace training in undergraduate programs, this model ensures students gain industry experience before graduation.
